Milk
Thistle has multiple health benefits covering
numerous diseases. Some people even claim that
this herb can be useful for heart by lowering
cholesterol point, also reduce the probability of
the growth of cancer cells in breast, cervical and
prostate cancers.
The
most active ingredient is silymarin which contains
both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Various
researches have been made regarding the benefits
of this herb. The silymarin present in it plays a
significant role in stimulating the growth of new
liver cells. It also prevents entry of certain
toxins from getting inside the liver by altering
the outer layer of it. Oxidation is a chemical
process which can cause damage to body cells.
Silymarin has powerful antioxidant effects which
can defend the body cells from such damage. It is
composed of four compounds- silybin, isosilybin,
silychristin, and silydianin.
Silymarin
plays an important role by blending with the cell
cycle regulators and proteins available in
apoptosis. It also performs as an
anti-inflammatory as well as anti-metastatic
activity within the body. The hepatoprotective
effects of silymarin have been established in
accelerating normalization of disabled liver
function. Now, silymarin has been applied to toxic
liver damage for the supportive treatment of
chronic inflammatory liver disorders and cirrhosis
of the liver, such as, fatty infiltration of the
liver by alcohol and other chemicals.
It
has some estrogen-like effects that may stimulate
the flow of breast milk in women. It may also be
used to start late menstrual periods. It is also
